"It takes a village to raise a child" is believed to have originated from an African proverb encouraging entire villages and communities to work together to bring up children in the healthiest, safest environments. This wasn’t just for the benefit of the child, but for the benefit of the community as well. Humans are a social being: we were never meant to parent without support.
In a society still reeling from the impacts of COVID-19, families are finding themselves more isolated than ever. It Takes a Village in Idaho was founded July 1st 2020 because of that forced isolation. We began as a free support network in a private Facebook group, growing quickly to over 100 members in less than 60 days. We were posting about our highs, our lows, asking for advice, and sharing parenting memes. As our membership grew, so did our sense of community- women were able to forge friendships online that soon translated into real life playdates and moms‘ night outs. And now we want to bring that community to you.
It Takes a Village in Idaho is and always will be a free support group for mothers, an organization committed to community service, and a safe space to find and build your village.
